I'm Mason Witt, IT Manager at a 250-person architecture firm with offices across the U.S., and the person behind Witt Labs.
For the past six years, I've been the guy who gets the 7am Monday Slack message that someone starts today and nobody told IT. I've built the automation that turned that panic into a 10-minute workflow. I've also been the guy who accidentally scoped a license cleanup script against the wrong group and watched it queue up removals for an entire department. (It caught itself. Barely.)
This site is where I write about what I'm actually building, not theoretical best practices from a vendor whitepaper, but the real workflows, scripts, and systems I deploy in a production environment with real users who need things to work.
What I work with
My daily stack is Microsoft-heavy: Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft 365, Defender, and Exchange Online for identity and endpoint management. NinjaOne for RMM across a fleet of ~350 devices. And n8n for workflow automation, connecting all of it together so the small things handle themselves and I can focus on the problems that actually need a human brain.
I write PowerShell when I need precision, build n8n workflows when I need orchestration, and occasionally argue with the Graph API when it decides to change its mind about pagination.
What You'll Find Here
The content on this site falls into a few buckets:
Automation walkthroughs: step-by-step builds of real n8n workflows and PowerShell scripts, with the actual code, the reasoning behind the design, and the parts that broke before they worked.
Microsoft 365 deep dives: Entra ID, Intune, Defender, and Exchange administration from the perspective of someone managing it at a mid-size firm, not an enterprise with a 40-person security team.
IT management for small teams: the operational side of running IT when you're the helpdesk, the sysadmin, and the security analyst simultaneously. Tool decisions, automation ROI, fleet management, vendor evaluation.
Honest takes: what I'd actually recommend to a friend who just got hired as the sole IT person at a 100-person company. No affiliate-driven recommendations, no vendor cheerleading.
Witt Labs
Witt Labs is also my fractional IT consulting practice. I work with small and mid-size firms, especially in architecture, engineering, creative, and legal, who need senior-level IT strategy and automation without the cost of a full-time hire.
If your team is drowning in manual processes, your M365 environment is held together with sticky notes and good intentions, or you just want someone to look at your setup and tell you what's working and what's going to bite you, that's what I do!
The Newsletter
Every week I send out a short email covering what I built or broke that week, a curated handful of IT automation news worth reading, and a quick-win tip you can implement the same day. It's free, it's short, and I don't sell your email to anyone.
The Boring Stuff
I'm based in Washington, DC. When I'm not automating things that should have been automated three years ago, I'm probably messing with smart home tech, gaming, or finding new ways to avoid running PowerShell scripts against the wrong group.
